✩°。⋆About my Archive

Welcome to the actual archive part of my archives. Here I have stored all the past versions of this site. Hopefully this does not get too tedious and I don't get sick of it each time I overhaul this site. We shall see...

✩°。⋆Why I Archive

You may be asking yourself, "Icarus, why do you bother archiving all these different versions of your site?". I ask myself the same thing, as it is now 9:15pm and I have been doing this for four instead of my homework thats due tomorrow. (It's probably fine...don't worry about that).

It's important to keep a catalouge of the changes you have made when building something as complex as a website. Despite the extra effort, it's incredibly helpful to have past versions of everything on hand. This way, if there is something I did on a past page that I want to recreate I don't have to try to remember how I did it, I can just go grab it from the old page. Or if I want to return the site to an old version, I don't have to struggle through re-coding everything, I can just change the root links. Long story short, it makes my life a whole lot easier in the long run (even if it's INCREDIBLY annoying at the time). Also, if you the viewer prefer the site as it was - or you're simply curious about the evolution of it - you can easy switch back and forth between the old and the new. The archive acts not only as a cataloug, but a record of all the hard work you have put into your website

This is gonna sound super pretentious, but I am a huge advocate for keeping records of ALL work you make, no matter what it is. Documentation of process is just as imporant as the final product. Things that are exclusively on the internet have no hard copies, so if it goes down there is no getting it back. And even if there are sometimes physical copies, they can be hard to find and expensive. While it's great to buy physical copies of things, thats not always accssesible. (My roomate and I got into a bit of an argument over this actually. He thought CharlieXCX deleting brat off the internet would be an iconic way to symbolize the end of brat summer. I think it would be stupid and counterproductive. Also, it would be a slap in the face to both her fans and the sanctity of Spotify as an archive). This is why sites dedicated to archiving media are so important. Especially if they are independant and not run by a large cooperation, as those often can be editited/deleted, and have an inherit bias. (An independant archive usualy does not have to deal with such things, as there is no "public image" to keep up, just information to share).

This is also part of the reason I archive media I really like on here. Not only is it a way to have everything I like in one place, but it's a way to keep things free, public, and shareable. Almost every link on here is completly free to accsses, and is hosted by a independant or nonprofit site. (If not, it is because whatever I am linking to is an independant project, free to begin with, or impossible to find anywhere else). If you're interested in any of the things I mention here, feel free to click on them and check them out! I promise to keep everything on here as free as possible. The more we share on here, the more decentralized the internet becomes.
